Dawn is Open Range’s specialist in genetics, behavior development, and reproductive care. She was the co-owner of a holistic grain company before she followed her passion and love for dogs. She is also the mother of six human children 😉

Helicopter pilot turned small business owner. Jason has worked with dogs since he was 8 and never imagined he would make a career in Dog Training. Jason enjoys working with and adapting to different client needs and shaping puppy behaviors that lead to a healthy and happy home environment.

I have known Dawn for almost 20 years and it is so great seeing her in her element; working with our furry friends. Dawn came through in a HUGE way when I had a last minute deployment and a 6 month old puppy that needed love and some good ole fashion obedience training. Dawn did so good with Frankie, especially when she is the most spastic dog I’ve ever known. She taught her simple commands like “wait” and “yes!” that work wonders for a now 10 month old puppy that tends to barrel through any gate or door or human legs for that matter. Dawn is always willing to answer ANY and ALL questions and is more than happy to continue the training through video chats which probably means the most. I know that if I’m ever having a hard time with Frankie, Dawn will have the answer. If you know what’s good for you, you will take your puppy or service animal to Dawn at Open Range Academy. I cannot recommend this company enough! As a first-time handler, I had maybe a thousand questions and every single one was answered diligently. I was in a sort of rush for help, seeing as my condition had worsened greatly over the past 2 years, and needed a company that would work with me with extreme patience and care. There is no other place that would have met those needs better than Open Range Academy. Every aspect of the training is transparent and thoroughly explained by the trainers at Open Range. I absolutely adore my pup that will essentially give me a second chance at life. Even after picking her up and working with her and Jenny, I still get help every step of the way without hesitation. Through the whole journey of when we started the process to purchase Daizi she was with us every step of the way! I know I asked a thousand questions but Dawn answered every one of them! Daizi arrived here Sunday afternoon and she is a lady! She has already bonded to my granddaughter who we bought her for! Daizi is great with her commands and now just have to keep it going! I am filled with gratitude that I found Dawn and chose her to work with my Quinn. She has been absolutely delightful to work with. Dawn has been a joy to work with, from the first time I contacted her. She graciously answered my MANY questions and continues to make sure that things are going well, now that we are home with our son's service dog in training, Otto. Dawn had our puppy for 8 weeks since we know nothing about training doggies. He came to us at 16 weeks old, totally socialized, happy, gentle, and well trained for someone his age. Dawn has infinite patience...not only with training dogs, but with advising and reassuring the new owners too! We inundated her with questions which she answered with patience and wisdom. All of her "hints" worked great and helped us continue our puppy's training after arrival. She is always kind to the dogs during training, there is never a cross word from her. We appreciated her help in our transport home of our puppy...we couldn't have done it without her. We feel like we will be able to use Dawn as a resource moving forward in our puppy's training as he grows. It is so important that the dogs have a good base to build on and we can tell that our dog is happy, well adjusted, and pleasant to be around. We love him so much. We had a great experience with Open Range Academy when Dawn helped to train our new pup, Gus, this spring. My husband and I both hadn't owned dogs since we were kids and so we were a little nervous about properly training a new puppy. We decided to send him to Dawn to make sure he had a really good foundation. He did live-in training and completed her 16-week program, and we could not be happier. He came home such a sweet, friendly, well-socialized dog. Dawn has a big family, so he got used to being around other people. She also has trained a lot of dogs, so she knows how to teach them not to engage in bad behavior (like jumping up on the couch). Gus came home crate-trained and mostly housebroken (we just had to get him used to where to go at his new house). He also understands lots of his basic commands and is great at walking on a leash. He even earned his AKC Canine Good Citizenship certificate! Dawn also provided a bunch of info about his usual schedule, his commands, etc. so we can keep his training going at home. It was all very helpful to us as we figured out how to take care of him. The one thing I was a little worried about was that he would not think of us as his people after spending a few months in another house, but it really hasn't been a problem as we've all become really attached to each other. Everyone who has met Gus comments on how sweet he is. And we like to joke that Dawn helped him earn his "Puppy PhD."

Dawn is amazing!!! We were on the waiting list and were very specific on our choices and sometimes things happen...but I also believe it happens for a reason. Because we were so picky it kept us back on a little longe waiting list but a few months after being on the list Dawn called with an opportunity and YES we took it. Dawn worked with me on pick up etc and she was so accommodating. We retuned from vacation and I drove to Open RAnge where I met her and her daughter and saw their beautiful "Range" it is amazing. Dawn and her family gives so much love and attention to their pups. We now have a new addition to our famil and his name is KOA!

Here’s my girl little Dawn!!! I don’t want to bore you all with my story but must. Since I feel it can help so many people looking for a great breeder. I was not a new dog owner by any means having had four dogs previously and yes I’ve rescued. What I lacked was the correct information on how to look for the best most reputable breeder I could find for my new sheepadoodle pup. Emotion took over so I quickly put a deposit on a sheepadoodle. Something inside of me told me to do more research and that’s when I found openrangepups and Dawn. I spent 4 hours on her web-site learning, educating myself on what I should be looking for to adopt a healthy sheepadoodle.Next day I called Dawn and got my deposit back. Dawn spent countless hours educating me on how she health tests each adult dog and does OFA testing on both parents. The only breeder I know to give a 4 year warranty. I was in the right hands. As I waited for my baby Dawn was always there communicating which momma was pregnant next and when I might expect to get one. Then I got the call it was a girl!!! Mind you I have two grown daughters and a grandson but this news I literally cried. Openrangepups also has a training program so living in NYC I left little Dawn to be trained for a month. I hope this can help someone out there like myself that wants to find a healthy puppy and a meticulous breeder. Don’t be afraid to wait till it’s right because the wait is worth everything. We love you Dawn and family for all you do and couldn’t imagine a more incredible puppy than little Dawn.

I did about 2 years of research before deciding on a breeder... especially because there are not many options in AZ, my husband has allergies, and I was really worried about buying from a stranger on the internet... I went all the way to asking an obnoxious amount of questions, talking to & meeting other customers, and contacting vets. Dawn and her family/business are AMAZING. Incredibly patient and welcoming with all of my questions/contact even for the many months before I put down a deposit. ZERO negative feedback anywhere I could find. Responsible. Honest. Always accessible. Really cares about the dogs/puppies and the families they will be joining. We got our furbaby on December 18th @ 10 weeks old (after 2 extra stay & train weeks) and she is really a dream! We had her flown in-cabin with someone (also awesome) who met us at our home airport for less than it would have cost me to pick her up myself. Puppy came to us having tons of positive exposure to kids and pets, knowing sit and familiar with the crate and on leash. She is beautiful, healthy, super smart, FANTASTIC in the car and on the 2 flights she took with us for the holidays, and worth every penny. Dawn has even stayed in touch to answer questions and get pictures/updates. I have never met a puppy this calm and well behaved, and I couldn't imagine getting a dog from anyone else no matter where we live in the world.

We are first time puppy owners, so to say the least, we were scared and not very knowledgeable about dogs. After much research on the breed that would best fit our family, we decided on a Sheepadoodle. Again, after much research we chose Open Range Pups to breed our future pup. Dawn, Jason, and their adorable children were beyond wonderful! Dawn included us in every step of the process from the first ultrasound, to a live-birth video, to weekly video updates, to characteristic paragraphs, to a phone call to help selection, and every message in between with my never ending questions. Dawn responds immediately to messages, always willing to answer any question or concern. Her six children were loving and playful and helped socialize the pups. I anxiously awaited every new video posted on FB! This was important to me as we have three kids of our own and always several extra at the house for play dates. Dawn is honest and full of integrity. She is truthful and transparent. She is kind and caring. Her love for dogs shines through in every post and video and conversation. We are so very grateful for the Scott Family! Tucker is now 6 months old and is absolutely a love! He is simply adorable, smart, easy to train, loves kids, plays with his toys independently, is people and pet friendly, took to car rides well and is so fun! He is a wonderful addition to our family. Truly a loving dog! In addition to the breed, I attribute this to the love and attention the Scott Family gave to him for the first 10 weeks of his life. We kept him there an extra two weeks for the start of potty training, leash walking, and crate sleep training. He came home sleeping through the night! I continue to message Dawn with questions and she replies within minutes. I truly can not put into words how grateful we are for Open Range Pups. I highly recommend them for your future fur baby!

I knew I wanted a sheepadoodle and researched different breeders online. I am so happy I found Dawn and open range pups. From my first email, she responded back immediately. Whenever I had a question or wanted an update, she was always quick to respond. Dawn and the entire Open range family is just the best! From the day our little angel was born we were getting videos and pictures and pretty constant communication. When we picked Bernina up, you could tell she was loved the whole time! After the first night, she was almost sleeping from 12-6 with no interruptions! She loves everyone she passes and absolutely adores children (probably because she was surrounded by 6 of them during her first weeks of life)! Highly recommend!!

We have been waiting for our sweet Barkley for a long time. He is the perfect addition to our family. Dawn did a great job at preparing Barkley for the long plane ride from CO to PA. He arrived a little nervous but adjusted within 24 hours. Just after Barkley arrived my husband had to have ACL surgery. I was nervous with the a new puppy and having to take care of my husband at the same time. Thankfully Dawn did such and amazing job with early training it was a very easy transition. Barkley responds to commands from both of us and our children, I attribute that to Dawn and all the interaction the puppies have with her family from birth. We always looked forward to Dawn’s communication (photos and video) it made us feel like we got to know sweet Barkley before he came home. Her description of his personality was spot on. 5 stars Lilly was 3.5 when she joined our family and she is sincerely the most incredible dog we have ever had. She is affectionate, of very sweet temperament , comical (constantly keeping our whole family laughing), so friendly, intelligent, athletic, agile, and her expressions melt our hearts! She got along with our dog, and our cat immediately and captured our hearts and the hearts of our extended family immediately. She is a superstar with people that we meet on hikes and with our neighbors. Everyone loves to dote on sweet Lilly and for great reason. Dawn has clearly provided her with an excellent home and has obviously loved her so much for her to be so well adjusted to everything and so wonderful. She literally fit in perfectly immediately with our entire family, other pets included. We have loved all of the dogs that we’ve had, but Lilly is exceptional and extraordinary and is a house favorite for sure. We got our Aussiedoodle from Open Range Pups about two months ago. She is an amazing puppy! Dawn, her breeder is wonderful! I must have had conversations with her through email for two weeks before we decided to purchase our puppy as we are out of state in California. She was always patient with me and answered all of my questions thoroughly. She even took time to make a video of the puppy we were considering, to send to me. Samson is my first dog and I’m quite convinced he might be THE best dog EVER. I got him in August and he has been just a joy! His little personality is just one in a million. He is so happy, cuddly and just loves EVERYONE. He is VERY smart and easy to train with a little bit of stubborn in there. We can’t go anywhere without getting stopped by people asking what kind of dog he is and everyone always remarks about how happy and well behaved he is (even when he isn’t �). Being my first pup I had a TON of questions and Dawn was AMAZING. Even after he came home she was always so quick to answer questions or give suggestions. It’s obvious she cares and loves these pups so much! I loved that Samson was raised with kids around, his love for children continues now and is so adorable! I can’t recommend Open Range Pups enough! We just got Cody our new sheepa doodle puppy from Dawn at open range pups. We waited 9 months for our pup and it's been well worth the wait. Cody is smart,adorable and very social. Dawn raises her pups in her house house with her six young children. It is obvious from Cody's gentle temperament that he has been loved and cuddled. Dawn kept us posted beginning day 1. We kept him with her for 2 extra weeks for training and I highly recommend this service. He knows how to sit, walk on his lead and is comfortable using his crate. Maggie, our sheepadoodle, came to us just 3 days ago and she has already stolen our hearts and the hearts of all who meet her. She's loving, smart, gentle, playful - everything that you want in a pup. We live in PA and were nervous about getting a pup that we had never seen but Dawn was wonderful - patient, knowledgeable, and responsive. She sensed our anxiety and quickly calmed our fears! Ryley came to us in April at 5 months old and has been a fun addition to our household. He is very smart! He was potty trained within one week, crate trained shortly thereafter. We haven't had to use the crate at home for him at night, as he is very well behaved. He does very well on a leash and has learned not to tug and take the lead. He enjoys playing with other dogs and does well with children. He loves to fetch and play with his toys. For those that are wondering about his size, at 6 months he weighed 30 pounds and we are thinking he will gain another 5-10 pounds. While puppies can be a handful, Ryley was a very pleasant surprise for us. He is very mild mannered and eager to please. Thank you Open Range Pups for this wonderful addition to our family!

I am in the process of acquiring a mini sheepadoodle from open range pups. I have never purchased a pup on line before and needless to say I was hesitant and a bit uncertain of the process. After my initial communication with Dawn, the owner and breeder of "Open Range Pups", all my anxiety was gone. She and her husband were very helpful, knowledgable and friendly. That was several weeks ago and we are expecting our little sheepadoodle girl, Penny, in two weeks. I can hardly wait. Dawn has made all travel arrangements and has answered every message/text that I have sent, promptly. She is very attentive and kind and I am enjoying the whole process.
